Doctoral Colloquium

On the 12th June, the day before IPIC 2023 opening, the 5th  edition of the IPIC Doctoral Colloquium will take place. The Doctoral Colloquium is a one-day event aimed at developing and mentoring PhD students. This new platform provides an excellent opportunity for PhD students to receive in-depth feedback on their (ongoing) research (proposals) from fellow PhD students and leading academics in the field of Physical Internet.

And this year, best contributions will be invited to be presented in the main conference!

This colloquium aims to discuss, reflect on, and further develop submitted papers or research proposals in an informal setting. You will be introduced to a variety of perspectives that can help strengthening and shaping your work as you progress towards your PhD degree, as well as to build a network of peers for your career.

The Physical Internet is a young and innovative field of research already explored by renowned academics and early-adopters from industry around the world. Engaging its community of young researchers, this colloquium aims to address the question of how to position current Physical Internet research into existing literature in order to enable publications in top-tier scientific journals.

On the day of the colloquium, you will present your paper in a targeted session with ample time for feedback and discussion. Additionally, there is plenty of time available to exchange and connect with fellow PhD students and academics during the coffee breaks, a lunch, and a dinner.

We warmly invite PhD students to submit their work, which can be at any stage of the research process (proposal, middle stages, or near completion). Contributions from all application areas, directly or indirectly related to the Physical Internet, are welcomed: Themes and topics include, but are not limited to: A. Urban logistics (Last-Mile delivery, Urban Network Design, E-Commerce Logistics) B. Transportation (Synchro-modality, Vehicle Routing, Fleet Management) C. Intra-hub Logistics (Warehousing, PI hub design, Cross-docking, Cross Chain Control Centres) D. Information Technology (Blockchain, Protocols and Certificates, Track and Trace) E. Policy (Legal issues, Role of Governments, Stakeholder Management) F. Business Models and Supply Chain Management (Supply Network Coordination, Supply Chain Relationships, PI-adoption, Inventory Management, Change Management)

We accept all types of research methodologies from applied and theoretical research, such as mathematical modelling, optimization, simulation, case studies, pilot studies, and surveys. Application

The program allows for a limited number of attendees; if you are interested in attending the colloquium, please submit a paper by following the template and instructions.

Submissions will be selected by the colloquium committee based on their quality and fit. Submissions for the Doctoral Colloquium must be made on-line. You may find more info in the following files:

PhD Students who are:

  • Interested in attending IPIC2023
  • At any stage of the research process (proposal, middle stages, or near completion)
  • Conducting research directly linked to elements of Physical Internet
  • Conducting research in other fields with a variety of research backgrounds (i.e. social/behavioral sciences, environmental sciences, legal studies) who are interested in getting more connected to the different elements of the Physical Internet and its community.

  • Participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion of this first IPIC Doctoral Colloquium.
  • This Doctoral Colloquium counts for 2 ECTS.
  • The fee of the Doctoral Colloquium is included in the fee of the IPIC Conference.
  • A limited number of grants will be awarded to the best students to cover conference fees and travel expenses

  • A faculty of established and renowned academics will take part in Colloquium. They will share their experiences and will provide support and feedback.  
  • Your fellow PhD-students.
